Consider those sparks that ignite you into adrenal pumping action and make you feel at the edge of your seat alive.

It might be tinted with feelings of pain, righteous indignation, or other emotions that are not comfortable, depending on your unique experiences.

That is anger.

Anger is a beautiful thing with a horrible reputation.

  • Violence
  • Mob Mentality
  • Yelling
  • Abusive actions
  • Road Rage

None of those activities ARE anger.  They are stupid choices that people make.

Anger is going to continue to be a misunderstood part of the human experience for as long as we keep using terms like “Anger Management” and “Anger Issues”.

The message is that if you get angry then something is wrong with you.  That is a disempowering way to address the situation.

When you get angry, it proves that you are alive enough to FEEL something.

Anger is a call to action and you must act on it.  Holding onto it is like holding onto a tornado, if you make it out alive, it’s still not going to be a pretty thing.

It’s all in how you DEAL with it:

  • Decide what it is that you are truly angry about
  • Evaluate your options
  • Assertively act with respect to resolve the situation
  • Let it go!

For those who struggle with acting out in inappropriate ways because of anger, you may be an anger addict.

Anger hormones have a similarity to methamphetamine and are addictive.  There is help for that.

Most importantly, just like the alcoholic can’t blame Budweiser for making him drink and drive, an anger addict cannot blame anger for regrettable actions such as beating up the neighbors.
