Resilience Is a Dance, Not a Fight
April 28, 2025I’ve been fortunate to be able to help facilitate some trainings for healthcare workers and a request was made to share more about the powers of spending time in nature.
You see, in the hustle and bustle of life, especially when you’re helping others, it’s easy to forget about you. The world is spinning fast, and your energy is often being poured into caring for others. But here’s the secret: Nature is here to remind you of your own divine power and healing abilities.
As a healer, you need to recharge. And nature? Well, she has everything you need. From the dirt beneath your feet to the trees that whisper ancient wisdom, spending time outdoors can work wonders on your soul, body, and spirit. Let’s dive into the beautiful ways nature helps heal us:
Say Goodbye to Stress & Anxiety
Chill Out with the Trees: Nature’s got your back when it comes to stress. Fresh air, open skies, and the simple beauty of the earth can lower cortisol (your stress hormone). When you’re out there, your nervous system gets a much-needed reset.
Good Vibes Only: Nature raises your vibes, clearing negative energy and filling you up with peaceful, calm energy. Whether it’s a quiet walk in the park or sitting by the ocean, you’ll feel that anxiety just melt away.
Breathe, Baby, Breathe: The natural world offers a sacred space where you can breathe deeply, reset, and return to your true essence.
Clarity, Focus & Creative Flow
Mental Clarity: Nature clears the fog. When you step outside and soak in the beauty around you, your mind gets to reset. With more focus and clarity, you’ll be ready to tackle the world with a clear heart and mind.
Creative Spark: Nature is the ultimate muse. Whether you’re painting, writing, or dreaming up something magical, the outdoors spark creativity like nothing else. It’s like the earth whispers her secrets to you when you pause and listen.
Get Out of Your Head: Take a step away from your busy thoughts and into the quiet of nature. Your mind gets the space it needs to unwind and reconnect to what really matters.
The Healing Powers of the Earth (Boost That Immunity)
Nature’s Magic: Studies show that being outside boosts your immune system, making you stronger, more vibrant, and ready to take on anything. You can thank the beautiful plants and trees for this; they’ve got your back, helping to fight off illness and keep you in peak health.
Phytoncides, Baby: Trees release these amazing compounds called phytoncides, and when you breathe them in, your body gets a natural immune boost. It’s like getting a hug from Mother Nature herself.
Grounding Energy: Earthing, or touching the earth directly, balances your energy, reduces inflammation, and soothes your soul. Whether it’s walking barefoot in the grass or resting your hands on a tree, the earth’s energy flows into you, bringing peace and healing.
Sleep Like a Dream
Nature’s Sleep Spell: The earth is in tune with your body’s rhythms. When you spend time outside, your circadian rhythm syncs up with the natural flow of day and night. This helps your body get the restful, healing sleep it craves.
Goodbye, Insomnia: Spending time outdoors during daylight hours helps your body create melatonin (the sleep hormone), so when night falls, you’ll be ready to rest deeply.
Burnout? Not Here, Sweetheart.
Healing from Within: As a caregiver, burnout can creep in, but nature helps you protect your energy. By spending time in nature, you lower emotional exhaustion, re-energize your spirit, and come back to yourself.
Balance & Renewal: When you feel drained, take a moment to sit with the trees or walk through a meadow. Nature has this beautiful way of restoring your inner balance and filling your cup back up, so you can continue to give from a place of love, not depletion.
Empathy, Compassion, and Emotional Wellness
Open Your Heart: Nature helps you reconnect with your heart and your emotions. It encourages empathy and compassion—not just for others but for yourself too. When you’re aligned with the earth’s rhythm, you can be more present with those you care for.
Feel the Love: Spending time outdoors helps you return to a place of unconditional love and acceptance, both for yourself and the people around you.
A Body in Motion Is a Body in Flow
Move Your Body: Whether it’s dancing in the rain, hiking through the woods, or simply stretching in the sunshine, nature gets your body moving. And moving is life, honey. When you’re out there, you’re lowering your risk of heart disease, keeping your body strong, and releasing endorphins that make you feel amazing.
Heal and Recover: The fresh air and peaceful surroundings help your body recover faster. Your muscles relax, your blood pressure drops, and you feel your body working in harmony again.
Nature-Based Practices for Total Healing
Earthing (Touching the Dirt): Walking barefoot on the earth (or just sitting with your hands in the soil) grounds you in the present moment. You’ll feel the earth’s energy flow through you, reducing stress and balancing your body’s energy.
Tree Hugging: Yes, it’s real, and yes, it works. Hugging a tree helps you release tension, lower your blood pressure, and feel more grounded. You can’t help but smile when you wrap your arms around a big, wise tree.
Breathe in Phytoncides: Trees and plants release powerful, healing compounds that strengthen your immune system and calm your spirit. When you take a deep breath and inhale the fresh air, you’re breathing in nature’s medicine.
How to Make Nature a Part of Your Day
As a healer, your time is precious. But trust me, making space for nature is non-negotiable for your health and happiness. Here are a few easy ways to make nature part of your routine:
Microbreaks in the Wild: Take little five-minute breaks outside throughout your day. Even a quick walk around the block will reset your energy.
Take Nature Walks: Gather your tribe, your colleagues, or go solo on a walk through a nearby park or forest. Walks are the perfect way to recharge your spirit and get your body moving.
Create a Ritual: Start your day with a morning meditation in nature or take a moment to breathe deeply beneath the trees as the sun sets. These moments of stillness will bring you peace.
Bring the Outdoors In: Add plants to your workspace, light a nature-scented candle, or open your windows to let the natural world inside.
Conclusion: Embrace the Earth’s Healing Energy
Write this down – Nature is your sanctuary. In a world that moves at a million miles per hour, the earth
offers you peace, balance, and healing. By stepping outside, hugging trees, and connecting with the soil, you’re not just nurturing yourself—you’re reconnecting with your truest self.
So, take a deep breath. Step outside. The earth is waiting to embrace you, to heal you, and to remind you of your limitless beauty and strength.
